Quest 979/Script

Before quest
Luxu and the Master of Masters are talking in the Foretellers' Chambers.

Luxu The world is going to end?
-

Master of Masters Haven't I told you? There's no way for us to win against the darkness.
That's why we needed to use the time we had to get all those Keyblade wielders...
...ready to pass the torch to the next generation.
-

Master of Masters This world exists to nurture the Dandelions, our little seeds of light, so they can be sown into the future,
where they CAN stop the darkness. Then, the sun will finally set on this duskless dawn.
-
The Master of Masters puts his hand on Luxu's shoulder.

Master of Masters And our plan will have succeeded at last.
-
The Master of Masters walks back to the desk. Luxu takes a step backwards.

Luxu I'll get started then.
-
Luxu grabs the black box and prepares to leave.

Master of Masters Oh, wait, I almost forgot.
-
Luxu lets go of the box and turns back to the Master of Masters.

Luxu There's more?
-

Master of Masters Like I said, we've been fighting darkness for a long, long time.
During this battle, darkness shed its form and began attacking our hearts instead of our bodies,
claiming countless allies of mine along the way.
-

Master of Masters But at some point, darkness realized that without form, they would eventually lose their individual will.
Which brings us to now.
-

Luxu Darkness has no form?
-

Master of Masters "From seven, all is fulfilled. From thirteen, chaos is born."
As it states, darkness began as thirteen.
-
The Master of Masters walks across the room.

Master of Masters Without form, they spread throughout and became a whole. The ones that continued to spread...
...and derived their own forms became the Heartless, while those without forms developed individual will.
And now the formless yearn to take over the bodies of those with strong hearts.
-

Luxu Strong hearts...?
-
The screen darkens, showing only the Master of Masters and Luxu.

Master of Masters You can't destroy darkness if it has no form,
which is why you need a vessel with a strong heart.
That's where you all come in.
-

Luxu Wait a minute...
-
Images of the foretellers appear around the Master of Masters and Luxu.

Master of Masters I know how it sounds, but believe me when I say that I didn't train you all...
...just to turn you into vessels. I pushed you to become resilient—
resilient enough to withstand darkness even if it were to take over your hearts.
-

Luxu This was your plan...
-
The stained glass panel showing the five Unions appears below the Master of Masters and Luxu.

Master of Masters This is war—
between people and something entirely different.
You can't afford to get sentimental; you need to be pragmatic.
I chose this fate for you because I believed you could bear it.
-

Master of Masters Now, listen, There are thirteen darknesses.
Of those thirteen, we'll trap the most powerful seven inside the hearts of each of us.
We'll all go our separate ways and destroy the darkness wherever we end up.
-

Master of Masters That's the true purpose of the Keyblade War.
-
The images disappear, and the Master of Masters sits down at the desk.

Luxu Is it really necessary for the Unions to betray each other? Is the War the only way?
-

Master of Masters It is.
-
The Master of Masters opens the Book of Prophecies.

Master of Masters I used the passage in the Book about the traitor...
...to plant doubt inside all of you for darkness to feed on.
For them to take the bait, we all need to harbor true, real emotions.
-

Master of Masters And when emotions grow and clash, they'll get stronger,
and eventually the seven shadows will try to take over our hearts.
-

Luxu And you want them to succeed?
-

Master of Masters Yes. As for the remaining six,
-
The Master of Masters closes the Book.

Master of Masters five will feed on the Union leaders, and the last one will be trapped in this world.
-

Luxu You can't do this!
The sacrifice is too great!
-

Master of Masters I told you...
-

Master of Masters ...not to let sentiment cloud your judgment.
It's a tragedy when darkness takes over someone's heart. I know that all too well...
...because I've seen those that I cared about, my closest allies, drown in darkness.
-

Master of Masters This isn't some heroic tale about the battle between light and darkness.
It's about honoring the dignity of those with hearts.
-

Master of Masters Besides, I'm not planning on sacrificing anyone.
I have a safety plan.
-

Luxu ...
-
Luxu nods, grabs the box and leaves.

Master of Masters May your heart be your guiding key.
Your thoughts, your feelings, your actions—
-

Master of Masters you are the key to the future.
I'm counting on you, traitor Luxu.
-
Daybreak town is glitching, and being destroyed. Brain sits behind the computer in the Basement, with Lauriam and Elrena behind him. Ventus is still lying in his pod.

Elrena Any progress?
-

Brain Well...
I tried looking for a way to get everyone back at once using the existing system,
but it's not a viable option with the time we have.
-

Lauriam So that's it?
-

Brain There might be another way.
Not for all of the Dandelions, but I think I can help Ephemer and the others at least.
-

Brain But before I do anything, I want you to hop back in the lifeboat.
-

Elrena What?
-

Brain I need to work quickly to have a decent shot at this.
But first, I'm going to get you out of this world.
-

Lauriam What's your plan?
-

Brain Return two of the pods to the data world.
That way, the three of them will each have one.
-

Lauriam Will that work?
-

Brain Only one way to find out.
Get in.
-

Lauriam Will you really be okay on your own?
-

Brain The only Union leader who can escape right now is you.
Ephemer gave me this chance to keep hope and light alive,
and now I'm passing it on to you. Let me do this.
-

Lauriam All right.
-

Brain I don't know where or when you'll end up.
But keep your goal—your waypoint—
etched in your heart.
-

Lauriam I will.
I assumed people's data just didn't exist when I couldn't find my sister's.
But I was wrong.
It does.
-

Brain Then that will be the waypoint to guide you.
I hope you get to see her again.
-
Lauriam and Brain shake hands.

Lauriam I hope I get to see you again too.
-
Brain nods, and Lauriam and Elrena get back into the lifeboat.

Brain May your heart be your guiding key.
-
Brain activates the lifeboat.

Lauriam Brain!
-
The pods flash and disappear. Brain turns around.

Brain Who—?
-
Luxu walks into the room.

Luxu So it's just you?
-
In the data Daybreak Town, Ephemer, Skuld, and The Player look at the computer screen.

Skuld Do you think they all got there safely?
-

Ephemer Of course. Brain's with them.
-

Player Yeah, he's always got a plan. Unlike someone I know.
-

Ephemer Hey!
-
Ephemer, Skuld, and The Player laugh.

Skuld I can't believe the world is ending.
-

Ephemer Yeah. It's so quiet.
-
The Player hears something and turns around.

Player Guys.
-
The Player summons their Keyblade.

Player Guys!
-
Ephemer and Skuld also turn around.

Skuld What—?
-

Ephemer How...?
-
Four darknesses have appeared in the room.

Skuld There are four of them?
-

Darkness No need for alarm. We are not here to fight.
-

Darkness We merely ask that you open our gate before you leave.
-

Ephemer Gate?
-

Darkness Oh, yes.
The darkness you fought must have told you our purpose: infection.
We will travel through portals and infect other worlds.
-

Ephemer And you thought we'd just agree to that?
-

Darkness You have no choice. We overpower you.
-

Darkness We could take over one of you here and now.
-
One of the darknesses appears between Ephemer and The Player.

Darkness You can open our gate of your own will, or out of regret and shame at losing a friend before your very eyes.
-

Ephemer I won't do it.
-
Ephemer summons his Keyblade and swings at the darkness, who vanishes. Ephemer, Skuld, and The Player prepare to fight the darknesses.

Darkness Fools.
-

Ephemer (Once this starts, get in the lifeboat.)
-

Player !?
-

Ephemer (One of us needs to survive.)
-

Player Fools.
-

Skuld What?
-

Player This is why people cannot defeat darkness.
-
The Player attacks Ephemer, who blocks the attack.

Ephemer The Player! What's wrong with you?
-

Skuld Stop!
-
The Player knocks Skuld to the ground.

Player The Player's heart has been lost to darkness.
-

Skuld No...
-

Ephemer The Player!
-

Player He/She cannot hear you.
-

Ephemer Wait, are you—?
-

Player I am formless. You cannot destroy me.
-

Skuld I thought we'd dealt with you...
-

Ephemer The Player...
-
The Player strikes, and knocks Ephemer across the room.

Player Open a gate, and he/she will be returned.
-
Ephemer slowly gets back up.

Ephemer No.
-
Skuld comes to Ephemer's side, and the two prepare for battle. The darknesses surround them.

Player I will handle this alone.
-
After quest
Ephemer and Skuld are lying on the ground after the battle.

Player If only you'd gotten in the lifeboat.
-
Ephemer raises his head.

Ephemer Stop... The Player...
-

Player Let your hatred grow.
It fuels us.
-
The Player raises their Keyblade, preparing to finish off Skuld.

Ephemer No!!!
-
Just as The Player strikes, Ephemer shoots a ray of light from his Keyblade, piercing The Player and sending them through a glitching Corridor.

Ephemer I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry...
-
Ephemer closes the Corridor with tears running down his face.
Back in the real Daybreak Town...

Luxu So it's just you?
-

Brain That's right.
You are...?
-
Luxu approaches Brain.

Luxu Luxu. One of the Master of Master's apprentices.
-

Brain Huh?
-

Brain Master Luxu? I thought you disappeared before the Unions were created.
-

Luxu None of that matters now.
Tell me, are you a Union leader?
-

Brain Yes, my name's Brain.
-

Luxu And you're the only one here, I see.
-
Luxu points at the lifeboat.

Luxu Where're the others?
-

Brain One escaped, but two are still in the data world.
-

Luxu That makes four. What about the fifth?
Are they gone?
-

Brain Yes...
-

Luxu I see.
-
Luxu points at the remaining pods.

Luxu So that's yours then?
-

Brain No.
-

Brain Three of my friends stayed behind in the data world.
I'm going to send both of these there, and with the one they already have, they can all get back.
-

Luxu Then what will you do?
-

Brain Stay here and stay alive as long as I can.
I need to wake as many of the Dandelions stuck in the data world as possible.
-

Luxu Wake?
-

Brain Master Ava taught us...
...that when a world becomes enveloped in darkness, it falls into slumber.
-

Luxu It does,
but the data world is different.
-

Brain How so?
-

Luxu That world was built as a cage to entrap darkness.
If it falls to darkness, that's it.
-

Brain No...
-

Luxu And another thing.
-

Luxu The lifeboat is incomplete.
Whoever uses it needs two things at their destination:
someone with memories of them, and a vessel to occupy.
Were you aware of that?
-

Brain More or less.
-

Luxu Do you have a plan?
-

Brain Well,
-

Brain I'll figure it out, no matter how long it takes.
-

Luxu You're pretty smart, aren't you?
It's a shame this lifetime is the only one you've got.
-
Back in the data Daybreak Town, Ephemer picks up Skuld as two pods appear in the lifeboat.

Skuld ...Ephemer.
-

Ephemer Let's go home.
-
Skuld nods, and Ephemer places her in one of the pods. Before he gets in the other one himself, he looks at the remaining pod, which was intended for The Player.
The Player ends up in the Cable between worlds, with several darknesses around them.

Darkness Well done.
-

Darkness Using anger to get them to open our gate for us.
-

Darkness Through this portal, we can access and infect countless worlds.
-

Darkness It's time you rid yourself of that brittle human vessel. Unless you wish to waste away along with it.
-
The Player laughs.

Darkness Why are you laughing?
-

Player I didn't think tricking you guys would be so easy. Are all of you this gullible?
-

Darkness What—?
-
The Player raises their Keyblade.

Player You don't have a physical form, but you need a key to unlock doors for you.
Seems real inconvenient.
-
The Player gets up and shoots a ray of light from their Keyblade.

Player Ephemer locked the gate back there. This one here is locked too.
Looks to me like you have no way out.
-

Darkness You... It was all an act?
-

Player Took you long enough. How does it feel to be outsmarted?
-

Darkness Why you—!
-
The darknesses swerve around in anger. The Player falls to their knees. Chirithy appears.

Chirithy The Player...
-
The Player sits down and pets Chirithy.

Player I'm sorry. I didn't mean to drag you into this too.
-
The Player and Chirithy hug, and a bright light envelops them.
Ephemer and Skuld arrive in the real Daybreak Town.

Ephemer They all made it out.
-
The room shakes.

Skuld What should we do, Ephemer?
-

Ephemer Let's take a look outside.
-
Skuld nods, and the two head outside. They watch in horror as the world is being destroyed.

Ephemer Skuld, it's way too dangerous out here.
Let's go back inside.
-

Skuld It takes so much time and effort to create, but only an instant to destroy...
-

Ephemer Come on.
-

Skuld Okay.
-
Ephemer and Skuld head back inside.
On the hill outside Daybreak Town, the Master of Masters and Darkness are talking.

Darkness You are difficult to understand.
-

Master of Masters You mean people?
-

Darkness No. Just you.
-

Master of Masters Do you want to understand?
-

Darkness It is important to understand your enemy.
-

Master of Masters Is it important for darkness? Or just you?
-

Darkness All of us.
-

Master of Masters A chessboard makes for a small world.
-

Master of Masters Easy to understand, easy to control.
-

Master of Masters Now imagine it expands slowly,
-

Master of Masters one fairy tale at a time,
-

Master of Masters without end or limit.
-

Master of Masters No matter how large the world grows,
-

Master of Masters no matter how many countless lives are spent expanding it,
darkness spreads to every corner.
-

Master of Masters It's kind of unfair, really.
-

Master of Masters We can run and we can hide, but you always seem to stick with us every step of the way.
-

Darkness We are friends after all.
-

Master of Masters I could use some time alone, you know.
-

Darkness So where is it that you plan to run off to next?
-

Master of Masters A new world. One that I can't even conceive. A world where neither light nor darkness rules.
-

Darkness Where might that be?
-

Master of Masters Do you know what sets people apart from other living beings?
People want to believe in the future, even if they won't be around to see it.
I want to believe, too. Believe in a world beyond what we can imagine. A world of fiction.
-

Darkness Fiction? Not the data world?
-

Master of Masters Nope. If you imagine hard enough, you can make anything a reality.
Like I said, a world I can't even conceive.
-

Darkness And that is?
-

Master of Masters A place where voices and sight can't reach. A ——— world.
-
Amidst Daybreak Town's destruction, Ephemer and Skuld have returned to the lifeboat.

Ephemer Skuld, get in.
-
Skuld nods, gets in the pod, and starts to cry. Ephemer also gets in his pod.

Skuld Thank you for being here, Ephemer.
I'm glad I don't have to face the end alone.
-

Ephemer It's not over till it's over, Skuld.
-

Skuld Right.
-
Ephemer thinks back to when he met The Player, and when he fought alongside The Player. Tears run down his face.

Ephemer The Player...
-
The ceiling collapses, covering the entire room in rubble.
The Player and Chirithy are floating in a bright white. Images of other Keyblade wielders and their Chirithies appear alongside them. The Keyblade wielders transform into a heart, which combines with their Chirithy into a Dream Eater.

Player What's happening?
-

Chirithy We're connected to the hearts of our Keyblade wielders.
When your hearts disappears, so do we.
And when you fall asleep, we become your protectors.
-

Player Am I going to sleep too?
-

Chirithy That's up to you.
-

Player I can choose not to?
-

Chirithy If you don't, your heart will simply melt into a new one.
-
In a city, a woman gives a baby to a cloaked man. The cloaked man brings the baby to the Destiny Islands, where the baby grows up as Xehanort. The man dies, and Xehanort arrives in Scala ad Caelum, where he plays chess with Eraqus.
The Player smiles.

Chirithy What is it?
-

Player It's not over yet.
-

Chirithy Huh?
-
The Player begins to glow.

Chirithy Goodnight.
-
The Player holds onto Chirithy as they transform into a heart.
Post-credits
A single pod floats in the water between the remains of Daybreak Town. The pod opens, and Ephemer lies inside.
Maleficent's raven brings Maleficent's cloak to the Mysterious Tower.
Lauriam awakes in the Flower Glade, lying between the flowers.
Elrena ends up on the Forbidden Mountains, in the middle of a thunderstorm.
Ventus ends up at the Badlands, where a figure approaches him.
A figure in a black coat walks through the Badlands with Luxu's Keyblade and the black box.

Luxu May your heart be your guiding key.
-
The figure takes of their hood, revealing Brain's face.

KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ
THE END
Brain wakes up in a city.

Brain Where am I?
-
A figure approaches with Brain's hat.

Sigurd You must be Brain.
-

Brain I am.
-
The figure hands him his hat.

Sigurd Here.
-
Brain takes the hat and puts it on.

Sigurd Just as I thought.
-

Brain Who are you?
-

Sigurd Oh, I'm terribly sorry. My name is Sigurd.
Could you give me a moment? I need to make a report.
-
Sigurd turn around, and talks into his hand.

Sigurd Apologies for the wait. Come, I'll take you to our headquarters.
-

Brain Headquarters?
-

Brain What are you talking about?
-

Sigurd It was decided that you would escape Daybreak Town amidst its destruction and arrive here today.
And that we would welcome you.
-

Brain It was decided? What do you mean?
-

Sigurd Allow me to explain once we get there.
-

Brain Wait. What about the others?
Some of my friends escaped with me.
-

Sigurd You are the only one who arrived in this time.
-

Brain I... Oh.
-

Sigurd I realize this must all be very confusing,
but if you would please come with me...
-
Brain nods and follows Sigurd to a square with a big fountain.

Brain Is that—?
-

Sigurd The original Keyblade Master and founder of this town, Scala ad Caelum.
-
A statue of Ephemer stands on top of the fountain.

Sigurd That is Master Ephemer.
-

Brain I know.
He was a good friend.
